The multinational telecommunications company Qualcomm has announced the next generation of its popular “Snapdragon” processor chip for smartphones.
Up until now, the Snapdragon 820 has been one of the world’s fastest processor chips, powering high-end smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S7, HTC 10, OnePlus 3 and LG G5. But Qualcomm has designed an even faster to its predecessor: the Snapdragon 821.
Snapdragon 821 Chip Goes into Overdrive
So, just how fast is Qualcomm’s latest processor chip? The company says it’s roughly 10% faster than the Snapdragon 820, offering a noticeable boost in mobile device performance. Clocking at speeds of 2.4GHz, this quad-core processor will raise the bar for otherchipmakers to follow.
The upcoming Snapdragon 821 will also feature a built-in modem that supports 600MBps download speeds, along with blazing-fast 4GLTE connectivity.
Other Features of the Snapdragon 821
According to various reports, the Snapdragon 820 improves image and media processing. This should come as no surprise, however, given its sheer power and speed. Downloading images, video and media on a smartphone takes a toll on the device’s hardware, particularly the processor. With the Snapdragon 821, you can download media faster and more efficiently.
Because it’s backed by so much power, the Snapdragon 821 will encourage manufacturers to create smartphones and tablets with larger screens. It could even be used to power virtual reality headsets, which have become increasingly popular in recent years.
Qualcomm is expected to launch the Snapdragon 821 by the end of summer, although the company has not announced a specific date.
