There are many ways of marketing your business. You can go with more traditional ways like advertising in print, on TV and on billboards. Nowadays, you can also go with digital marketing, which generally refers to marketing on the internet.
As time goes by, digital marketing is becoming more and more indispensable. You can’t get by without it. There are very few businesses which still continue to work by word of mouth. But it’s always possible that their clients might go somewhere else because everybody’s looking online these days.
So if you want to maintain the business that you already have or you want to grow your business, you could definitely do with digital marketing.
Setting Up a Website
The first thing you need to do is set up a website. It doesn’t have to be a really fancy website but it has to be really clear. You have to make sure that you’re communicating with your customers.
You have to keep in mind that people who go on the internet are not going to be there for a long time. They generally have shorter attention spans. So you have to give them the information they need right away. You can’t beat about the bush. You can’t make things too complicated.
People are not going to your website because they want to read a great work of literature (although that is a legitimate use of the internet too). They’re going to your website because they want information and they want it fast. So the main thing is to keep your website completely free of jargon.
You can also focus on the layout of your website. Make sure that it’s really clear, so that it’s easy for people to read what you’re trying to tell them. Things should be easy to read, visually and they should also be easy to comprehend.
Setting Up Social Media Pages
When you’re marketing on the internet, you have to focus on social media. Pretty much everybody knows this now but not everybody can do social media marketing really well. This is because it takes quite a bit of work. Ideally, social media marketing is something you should do everyday.
First of all, you set up your social media pages—Facebook, Twitter and whatever else is applicable to your business. A lot of people go with Instagram because they want to show a lot of pictures of what they’re trying to sell to people.
When you set up a website, you probably won’t need to make changes to it for another six months (unless you have a blog). But social media pages need to be updated all the time, preferably everyday. There are people who go on Twitter and tweet ten times a day. And that’s the only way that you can get people to hear what you have to say. You keep on tweeting again and again and eventually, one of your tweets is going to get a lot of attention. After that, you’ll start developing more followers because people will keep coming back. They’ll want to read more of what you’re writing.
Facebook has the added advantage that you can put photographs on it. So if there’s something new going on in your business, you can write about it and post photographs of it on Facebook. Let’s say you just hired somebody new or you’re producing a new product. You know best about the new things going on in your business. So use those.
If you can’t do all these things yourself, you can tell one of the people who works in your office to keep track of everything that’s going on, write a little bit about it and put it on the internet as and when it happens.
What is vital in marketing is communication. You have to keep communicating with your customers. And you can do that via social media.
