12 Tips for Making the Most of Your New Tablet
If you’re a first-time tablet user and the proud owner of a brand-new device, welcome! While tablets are incredibly versatile and convenient, adjusting to a new device can be a bit daunting at first. Just like with any new gadget, it will take a bit of time to become fully acquainted with your tablet. If you’ve grasped the basics but are looking for ways to optimise your tablet experience, you’ve come to the right place. In this post, we’ll explore 12 helpful tips to make your tablet use simpler, more efficient, and productive.
1. Stay Organised with Folders
If you’re juggling a lot of documents on your tablet, organising them into folders can significantly reduce stress and improve management. Tablets allow you to create multiple folders and categorise your documents accordingly. This way, you can keep everything neatly sorted.
2. Use Voice Typing
Save time and effort by using voice typing instead of manually entering text. Open your keyboard and tap the microphone icon. Speak into your tablet, and watch as your spoken words are transformed into text.
3. Protect Your Eyes with Outdoor and Reading Modes
Viewing text and visuals on your tablet can be challenging in bright sunlight. Conversely, when indoors, switching to a reading mode with a softer, warmer light can reduce eye strain. You can easily switch between outdoor and reading modes through the quick settings menu on your tablet.
4. Conserve Battery by Managing Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi can be a significant drain on your tablet’s battery, especially when it’s on but not in use. To save battery life, turn off Wi-Fi when you don’t need it. Go to Settings, tap Wi-Fi, then More, and adjust the setting to turn off Wi-Fi during sleep.
5. Protect Personal Information
If you plan to sell your tablet, ensure that all personal information is removed. Use the Factory Reset option to clear your Google account details and other sensitive information from the device.
6. Take Advantage of Free Resources
If you have a long journey ahead or just need to pass some time, your tablet can be a source of free reading material. Download free e-books, e-magazines, or library e-books. Amazon offers numerous free Kindle books, while Zinio provides access to a wide range of digital magazines with no return date.
7. Connect to a Printer
Printing from your tablet is straightforward. Go to Settings, tap More Connection Settings, and select Printing. If it’s your first time printing, you might need to download a printing plugin from the Play Store, which only takes a few minutes. Once installed, you’ll be able to connect to a nearby wireless printer.
8. Have a Plan for Misplacing Your Tablet
Losing your tablet can be frustrating, but having a plan in place can save you time and hassle. Go to Settings, tap Lock screen and security, and select Find My Mobile. Sign into your account and activate the Find My Mobile feature to locate and control your tablet remotely if it goes missing.
9. Keep Your Schedule Organised
Use your tablet to set alarms for waking up, remembering medications, running errands, and attending appointments. The built-in clock app can also function as a stopwatch, timer, and alarm to help you stay on track.
10. Lock Your Screen When Not in Use
To protect sensitive information such as banking details and credit card numbers, ensure your tablet is locked when not in use. You can set a password or pattern lock by going to Settings and tapping Lock Screen and Security. This will help keep your data secure.
11. Enjoy Peace and Quiet
For moments when you need uninterrupted focus or quiet, enable Do Not Disturb mode to silence notifications, messages, and alerts. You can even schedule Do Not Disturb mode to activate automatically during specific times.
12. Use Kid Mode When Needed
If your children use your tablet for games and other activities, consider installing a Kids Mode app from the Play Store. This will allow you to restrict access to certain content and ensure safer browsing for your little ones.
